If you enjoy manga, manhwa, and manhua and are looking for alternatives to Asura Scans, there are several platforms worth considering. Because unofficial scanlation sites can frequently disappear or change domains, official platforms are generally the more reliable choice. Here are five strong alternatives based on catalog, reading experience, and availability.

1. WEBTOON is arguably the best overall alternative for readers who mainly enjoy Korean-style webtoons and manhwa. It has a huge selection covering action, fantasy, romance, comedy, horror, and more. Its vertical-scrolling reader is particularly convenient on smartphones. A major advantage is that WEBTOON is an official platform, so creators and publishers are supported through the platform’s monetization system. Many episodes can be read for free, while some newer or early-access chapters require ads or paid currency.

2. MangaDex is one of the most popular community-oriented manga platforms. Unlike services focused exclusively on professionally licensed releases, MangaDex provides a broad range of community-uploaded translations and is particularly useful for finding obscure or older titles. Its filtering, tagging, language options, and series-tracking features make it excellent for readers who want to discover something beyond mainstream releases. However, translation quality and availability can vary because content comes from different groups.

3. Tapas is another strong choice, particularly for readers interested in Korean manhwa, webcomics, and web novels. It combines licensed content with creator-published comics, giving it a broader feel than a traditional manga service. Tapas uses a mixture of free reading, waiting periods, and its virtual currency system for premium chapters. Its catalog is especially strong in romance, fantasy, drama, and action.

4. Tappytoon focuses heavily on officially licensed Korean comics and is worth checking when a particular manhwa isn’t available on WEBTOON or Tapas. Its catalog has a strong emphasis on romance, fantasy, drama, and BL, although other genres are available. Because its content is licensed, it provides a more stable alternative to constantly changing scanlation websites.

5. Manta is particularly appealing to readers who prefer subscription-based access. Rather than relying entirely on individual chapter purchases, Manta offers subscription tiers covering eligible titles, making it convenient for binge readers. Its catalog has a strong focus on romance and fantasy manhwa, including several popular exclusive series. Availability and pricing can vary by region.

Final Thoughts For most Asura Scans readers, WEBTOON is the easiest starting point, while MangaDex offers broader community-driven discovery. Tapas, Tappytoon, and Manta are excellent choices if you prefer licensed content and a more stable reading experience. Since catalogs differ between services, checking multiple platforms is often the best way to find a specific series.
